Quitman Little Dribblers

Developmental 1st & 2nd Grade Rules and Regulations

The 1st and 2nd Grade teams of the Quitman Little Dribblers will follow the same rules and regulations as the 3rd and 4th grade teams (Junior Division rules of the National Little Dribblers) with the following exceptions:

  • All 1st and 2nd grade teams will be co-ed.
  • You cannot guard your man (play defense) until he/she crosses the mid court line. (volleyball line in Quitman)
  • Must play man-to man defense the ENTIRE game – no press at any time.
  • You have 10 seconds to get to mid-court line and 5 additional seconds to get to red/blue line.
  • Free throws can be shot from in front of the free-throw line (not more than 2 feet in front). This line will be marked with tape.
  • No tucking.
  • Every 1st and 2nd grade game will start with each player throwing 2 free throws.  If both teams do not have an equal number of players in attendance, the coach of the smaller team will choose players to shoot additional free throws to even the number of shots.
  • The 1st and 2nd grade teams play a “running clock” game of 4 periods of 6 minutes each. The clock will stop for free throws and time outs only.
  • Before each period – the 5 players to start that period for each team will line up on either side of the mid court line face to face with the other team – to allow each player to know who they are supposed to guard.
  • The officials will allow 1 turnover per original possession.
  • Each team will have two full (1 minute) time-outs per half.

See your association’s commissioner/president for clarification on any rules or regulations.  Please remember that the 1st and 2nd grade league is a LEARNING league and that is where our main focus should always be.
